Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!

A charming set of personal accounts about a truly unique, playful and cogent character. Like many people, I feel a true affection for Richard Feynman. The duality between curious silly prankster, and someone who understands the fundamentals of reality, means Feynman positions science as the height of wonder, beauty and creativity, but with measurements we can all agree on.

So many people fall into either logic and rationale, or creative and subjective. Completely missing, in my opinion, the best state of affairs: both of them combined. Feynman is such an amazing teacher, and self-assured character, that he is able to communicate the benefits of this combined approach in a truly galvanising way. His ability to avoid jargon, incite metaphor, and succinctly focus on the core of what is going on, means his teaching is universally understood, making what most people consider to be the most complex of subjects, accessible and understandable.

The way he views life led him to have many unique, charming experiences, remain in the memories of people for life, and touch the hearts of many aspiring scientists and artists alike. This is one of my favourite books, and it fills me with belief that walking your own authentic path, based on values that combine playful creativity, measurement, humility and understanding, are the ways to live a truly worthwhile life.
