Road to 100 Businesses — 12 / 100

I build things and write about what happens.

Apps, businesses, AI products. Some made money. Some didn't. I write up every one.

This site tracks almost every project I've worked on, many assigned to the graveyard but some still alive, shown as a running scoreboard of gross revenue, lifespan, and status. Click into any project to see what actually happened, including the story behind it, wins, losses, and the real takeaways I learned along the way. Think of it as part portfolio, part post-mortem, part personal experiment in what works and what doesn't.

Project Year Gross (est.)Gross Status Upvotes
Movie Recommendation Engine 2024 – 2025 N/A academic 0
A comprehensive machine learning project exploring the design, implementation, and evaluation of movie recommendation systems using real-world MovieLens datasets. The project compares content-based filtering and collaborative filtering approaches, including neural networks, matrix factorisation, alternating least squares (ALS), and linear regression models. Performance is assessed using RMSE, training time, and memory usage, with a focus on balancing prediction accuracy and computational efficiency for scalable real-world applications.

Philease Dogg Daycare 2018 – 2019 £38,000 retired 0
After leaving SAP to try and start something of my own, I looked for gig work walking dogs so I wouldn’t have to rely solely on my savings. I started by listing myself on the DogBuddy app and handing out some flyers with my mum’s three Scotties. Relatively quickly, I received my first request to walk and look after a puppy, which was really hard work (he wasn’t being trained at home at all, and he was quite a large pup). I actually ended up having to say I couldn’t look after him anymore, as he was causing more damage than I was earning.

Man Hunt (back to base) 2007 – 2007 Social limited 0
In 2007, when I first attended Kingston University, I found myself in a bit of a predicament. Originally, I was sleeping on the floor of a friend's bedroom in the halls of residence. Thanks to the clearing process, I hadn't managed to secure my own accommodation right at the start. However, fate smiled upon me, and within about six weeks, I managed to get a place in halls as others dropped out. This marked the beginning of my life at uni, full of friendships, amazing memories and some fairly ludicrous escapade.

Pimp My Own Ride 2006 – 2006 Experiment one-off 0
Eventually I passed my driving test. I think it was on the seventh try. Without going into all the details, I kept turning up to the test centre in a car that wasn’t quite roadworthy, lol. I was always tinkering, with a fluffy steering wheel cover, trying to change the seats, and hooking random stuff up to the battery.

Music Gigs 2005 – 2006 £2,820 limited 0
Between 2005 and 2006, I organised a handful of gigs in Brighton, making a small profit from each show. They often featured my band at the time, Citizen X, alongside other local acts. All I really wanted to do was play shows; the idea of making money never even crossed my mind. A lot of the process felt very natural to me.

Think Big for the Millennium I’ve always been crafting. Always making stuff. I loved tinkering with electronics. The Day I Wired My First Hi-FiWhen I was about eight, my mum and dad bought a three-disc changing Sony hi-fi.
